Description of the activity, including motivation/objectives and experience of the proponent (typically one-two pages)

A clear effect of ECRH on the behaviour of NBI-driven AEs has been observed in previous experiments in TJ-II (Nagaoka NF2013). Correct interpretation of the results was hindered by indications of a misalignment of the ECH quasi-optical transmission lines. In summer 2016 an exhaustive realignment of the lines has been performed. We have started repeating experiments in the 2016 fall campaign. We propose continuing these repetition experiments to confirm and validate the results then obtained.

If applicable, International or National funding project or entity

In 2017 Ciemat receives Eurofusion funding through an Enabling Research 2017-2018 grant (5.7 ppy for the two years). TJ-II is also involved during 2017 in joint experiments with LHD (two weeks in NIFS, February 2017) and other ITPA-related devices (i.e., AUG). Mission and travel funding for one of the proposers (A. Cappa) is also available

Description of required resources

Required resources:

  • Number of plasma discharges or days of operation: We estimate three good days of operation, around 120 NBI plasma discharges
  • Essential diagnostic systems: Magnetic coils, Thomson Scattering, ECE. HIBP, reflectometer, bolometers, NPA, ....
  • Type of plasmas (heating configuration): NBI plasmas
  • Specific requirements on wall conditioning if any: Well enough conditioned wall (lithium coated) so as to have good density control
  • External users: need a local computer account for data access: yes/no
  • Any external equipment to be integrated? Provide description and integration needs:
